Climate Action Plan
The sustainability and climate change strategy for education states: “By 2025, all education settings will have nominated a sustainability lead and put in place a climate action plan.” This includes early years settings, schools, multi-academy trusts, colleges, and universities.
Why having a sustainability leadership and a climate action plan is important:
The Government engagement suggests that settings and trusts have the greatest success in driving change where there is a holistic action plan that is supported by a leadership team with the authority, knowledge, and commitment to take it forward.
Ensuring there is clear leadership for sustainability in place, and a climate action plan, will help settings to:
- increase the confidence and expertise of the leadership team, staff, learners, and students in understanding climate change and how positive change can be achieved
- create a culture that prioritises sustainability
- share effective practice with other education settings and develop a peer-to-peer learning network
- use data to identify and prioritise action
- improve energy and water efficiency
- calculate their carbon emissions and identify ways to reduce them
- reduce operating costs
- increase resilience and start adapting to the impacts of climate change
- enhance biodiversity
- help learners develop skills and knowledge which help them to contribute to sustainability and climate change in their lives and future jobs
Roos CE Primary School:
Our Christian vision is for every member of our school family to ‘shine’ through a positive, nurturing environment underpinned by an enriched, inspiring curriculum that celebrates learning, fun and the wider achievements of all of our children and community, in order that everyone can ‘Live Life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10)
We encourage our children to 'shine' as a light to others in our community, being the best version of themselves and guiding others: "Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:15)
We promote excellence in everything we do and in the way we live, inspiring our children for life today, tomorrow and in the future, and guiding them in the true value of learning to "let your light shine!" (Matthew 5:16)
We summarise this in the simple statement: “Together we Care, Learn and Shine.”
This Christian vision emphasises care, stewardship, flourishing, and enabling each member to shine. It strongly aligns with a moral imperative to care for God’s creation, nurture responsible global citizens, and embed sustainability in every aspect of school life.
